Longhorns Leads LSA-I Preseason Poll
DALLAS – After winning the conference crown for the first time since 2014, Texas has been established as the favorite to be the repeat champion of Lone Star Alliance (LSA) Division I, according to the preseason coaches poll.
The Longhorns (10-3), which fell to Georgia Tech in the first round of the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, snagged 10 of the 12 first-place votes to sit well ahead of the field.
Texas is hoping to become the first LSA team to win back-to-back conference championships since Southern Methodist pulled off the feat in 2016-17.
SMU (12-5), which lost to Texas in the LSA championship game after beating the Longhorns during the regular season, were slotted second. The Mustangs were bolstered by a first-place vote.
Texas Christian (6-6), the 2022 conference champs, are No. 3, aided by the final first place vote. The Horned Frogs defeated both Texas and SMU in the regular season before falling to the Mustangs in the league semifinals.
The top four was rounded out by LSU (10-4). The Tigers were the 2019 LSA tournament champions.
Missouri (7-5) and Texas A&M (10-6) sit in a tie for the fifth spot.
