Texas State Opens Staff Search
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Texas State University men’s lacrosse team, a member of the Lone Star Alliance (LSA) in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I is accepting applications for the positions of head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator for immediate placement in the 2023-24 school year.
Texas State Lacrosse has a storied history that began in the '80s and resulted in LSA championships in 2010 and 2015. The program is coming off a down year with a 4-9 record. This year the team features an entirely new executive board who are looking to return the team back to its winning ways.
Job Description
Head Coach
The fundamental objective of the head coaching position is to instill a culture of hard work and on-the-field success. The applicant must take on the responsibility of developing a relatively young group of players into a team with a winning culture that competes for the LSA championships once again.
The head coaching position is contractual. The selected applicant will work directly with the player-comprised executive board, the team administrator, recreational sports director, and the facility trainers.
Day-to-day responsibilities include the planning and structuring of practices, leading the team on the field, a willingness to help foster talent in young players, and availability for all scheduled practices and games including those in other states. They should also be willing and able to assist in, recruiting events and game planning.
The selected applicant would immediately assume control of the program and have the utmost flexibility to instill their own strategies, teachings and personnel as they see fit. Salary is negotiable and will be based on the average of LSA coaches.
Contract length is also negotiable.
The head coach must be willing to work closely with the board in managing team responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Scheduling of practices, scrimmages, and voluntary workouts
- Maintaining a positive relationship between the program and Texas State University’s Department of Recreational Sports
- Enforcement of team regulations and policies throughout the season
- Fundraising efforts
- Recruitment of prospective players including a recruiting day/visit held during the fall semester
- Management of the coaching staff
- Play an active role in maintaining a healthy relationship with parents, alumni, staff, and student athletes
Applicant Requirements
- History of High School/College coaching experience and/or playing experience
- Strong organizational skills, communication skills, and a high degree of professional integrity
- Availability for all scheduled events:
* Late evening practices
* Weekend games and travel
*Out of State games
* Recruiting Events
* Team Meetings
- Extensive knowledge of the game and a fundamental understanding of the rules in which the MCLA operates (NCAA)
- Clearances
* FBI Criminal History
* PA Child Abuse Act 33
* PA Criminal Act 34

Defensive and Offensive Coordinator
The fundamental objective of the defensive/offensive coordinator position is to run an efficient and well coached offense/defense. The applicant must take on the responsibility of developing the talent of players in the respective position group.
The defensive/offensive coordinator is contractual. The selected applicant will work directly with the head coach and player-comprised executive board.
Day-to-day responsibilities include the planning and creating plays and schemes, leading the team on the field, a willingness to help foster talent in young players, and availability for all scheduled practices and games including those in other states. They should also be willing and able to assist in, recruiting events, and game planning.
