ATLANTA – After posting a pair of superb performances against two ranked opponents, Georgia Tech freshman netminder Peter Zagrobelny is the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending April 9.
Getting the start against No. 12 Brigham Young in Provo, the Tarrytown, N.Y., product delivered a masterful effort, turning away 15 of the 22 shots he saw for a 68.2 save percentage and a 14-7 triumph.
The next day against No. 5 Utah Valley, Zagrobelny got the start again and was even more impressive in the Yellow Jackets’ 18-6 rout of the Wolverines. He made 18 saves for a 78.3 save percentage. He also chipped in with three ground balls.
For the weekend he posted 33 saves against just 12 goals – a save percentage of 73.3 – for the ninth-ranked Jackets.
“Peter had a great weekend for us,” said Georgia Tech coach Ken Lovic. “He has had to step in with the injury to Owen [Armentrout] and did a great job against two tough opponents on the road.
“With each passing quarter, he seemed to gain more and more confidence. Peter has been improving all year long at practices and it showed in Utah. Having a goalie in the wings like Peter ready to step up has also given the defense a great sense of belief that he has their back.
“Kudos to Coach McCue and Coach Vanslyke, who have been doing a great job with getting all of our goalies ready to play. Peter is great example of being ready when it's your opportunity.”
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Zagrobelny will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
