ATLANTA – After leading Georgia Tech to the SELC championship and an automatic berth at nationals, Yellow Jacket junior attackman Pierce Quarles is the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 24.

On Saturday evening, Georgia Tech had the task of facing the No. 1 team in the country, Florida, in Jacksonville in the SELC semifinals. Thanks to two goals, five assists and four ground balls from the Canton, Ga., native, the Jackets pulled the 14-10 stunner.

Waiting for Tech in the finals was two-time defending national champion South Carolina. With two goals and two more assists from Quarles, the Ramblin’ Wreck rallied to down the Gamecocks, 10-7.

For the weekend, Quarles amassed four goals, seven assists and five ground balls.

“Pierce has been a major piece of our offense since he stepped on campus,” said Georgia Tech coach Ken Lovic. “He has the rare quality of being equally dangerous as a dodger and as a feeder.

“He puts a lot of pressure on the defense since he can take advantage of just about any defensive coverage and he makes his teammates better with his ability as a feeder. Add in his strong shooting, and it makes him a threat at all times.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Quarles will receive a Warrior EVO QX-O – a $100 value – for his efforts. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Kyle Decker, Soph. – Arizona State
The Sun Devils took down their archrival helped by five goals and two helpers from the Novato, Calif., attackman.

Jake Halversen, Sr. – Brigham Young
In a weekend sweep of Colorado teams, the Beaverton, Ore., attackman posted nine goals, two assists and six ground balls for the Cougars.

Dan Payne, Sr. – Temple
The Owls posted their first-ever tournament victory helped by a fourth-quarter hat trick – including the game-winner – from the North Wales, Pa., product.

Christopher Wilk, Soph. – Northeastern
The Huskies finished off their regular season with a pair of wins thanks to nine goals and two dimes from the San Jose, Calif., product.

Jack Winters, Jr. – Southern Methodist
The Mustangs upended top-seeded TCU in the LSA quarterfinals, boosted by five goals and a handout by the Solana Beach, Calif., attackman.

Blake Yates, Fr. – Utah Valley
The Sandy, Utah., native had 12 goals and two assists in leading the Wolverines to a pair of conference victories.
