ATLANTA – After a pair of monumental efforts that helped Virginia Tech pick up a pair of Top 4 wins, Hokies senior netminder Hunter LeClair has been named the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending April 17.
Virginia Tech started the week last Monday hosting previously-undefeated and No. 1-ranked Brigham Young in Blacksburg. Thanks to a stunning 21 saves from the Manassas, Va., native, the Hokies downed the Cougars, 11-8.
On Friday night, the Hokies hosted No. 4 Liberty, and again it was LeClair being the difference-maker. He stopped another 21 shots as Virginia Tech dropped the Flames, 8-5.
For the week, LeClair turned away 42 shots will allowing just 13 goals – a staggering goals against average of 6.50 against two of the best teams in the country along with a 76.4 save percentage.
"Hunter is the heart and soul of our team,” said Virginia Tech coach Panchito Ojeda. “He stepped up to play great during two of the biggest games of the year. He will be our rock as we head into the postseason.”
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, LeClair will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
