Division I - North

No. 4 Liberty 9, No. 7 South Carolina 8
Liberty was able to hold off the Gamecocks in a back-and-forth affair. The Flames were led in goal by Ryan Reynolds (15 saves, 8 GA) and on offense by Cooper Branham (3g, 1a) and Carter Elliot (2g, 2a). Liberty welcomes Pitt and WVU to town this weekend.

JMU 16, Vanderbilt 3
No. 2 Georgia Tech 15, JMU 6
James Madison opened it’s MCLA career with a 16-3 victory over Vanderbilt. They tussled with Georgia Tech and fell 15-6. The Dukes get a week off to recover before battling divisional opponent Pitt on March 5 and West Virginia on March 6.

Indiana 5, Pittsburgh 3
Pittsburgh 11, Miami (OH) 6
The Panthers drop their opening game to the Hoosiers but bounce back to get a big win over Miami (Ohio). Panthers were paced in goal by Finnegan Harris who save 60 percent against Miami and on the field by Reed Seybolt (2g, 2a) and Bennett Nakao. Pittsburgh heads to Virginia this weekend to battle Liberty and Virginia Tech.

West Virginia 10, Indiana 7
In their home opener the Mountaineers got off to a slow start before warming up and taking a 7-4 lead into halftime which they never relinquished. Congratulations to the Mountaineers on their first victory of the year after multiple weekends on the road.

Division I - South

No. 9 Clemson 14, Auburn 8
No. 9 Clemson 17, Texas A&M 10
The Tigers went on the road and again came away with victories. After beating Auburn, Clemson faced off in a game featuring two future MCLA Hall of Famers in Buff Grubb and Tony Scazzero. Aggies struck first but Clemson took a 2-1 first quarter lead which they never squandered on their way to victory. The Tigers were led in between the pipes by President Danny Laible (7 saves, 7 GA) and on offense by Garrett Brennan (6g) and Coston Pendleton (4g, 1a). Tigers faceoff against Georgia and Georgia Tech this weekend.

No. 7 South Carolina 12, No. 14 Virginia Tech 10
The Hokies got off to a good start grabbing an early 3-1 lead, but the Gamecocks never relented and this battle was down to the wire with the Gamecocks taking it 12-10. The Hokies were lead in the cage by Hunter LeClair (15 saves, 12 GA) and on offense by Aidan Smith (2g, 3a) and Jared Cole (2g, 2a). The Hokies welcome West Virginia and Pittsburgh to town this weekend as they look to bounce back.

Division II

Coastal Carolina 12, UNC-Wilmington 11
In their first ever ALC Divisional matchup we saw a barn burner between the Chanticleers and the Seahawks. UNC-W jumped out to a 5-3 lead but Coastal rebounded to bring halftime to a 8-6 lead for the Chanticleers. UNC-W clawed back to tie it at the end of three. In a back in forth affair the Chanticleers were able to get that last goal to secure the win. Coastal was paced in the net by Kyle Patton (15 saves, 11 GA) and on the field by Cameron Fagan (2g, 3a) and Tyler Matthiesen (4g).

No. 23 Wake Forest 15, App State 2
The Demon Deacons kicked off their divisional play with a big time victory over App State. They jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as they cruised to victory. Wake set themselves up well in the divisional standings for a run at the ALC AQ.
