FLORIDA -- After a two-week break, Georgia Tech resumed its strong play in 2021, sweeping their Sunshine State road trip by downing both Florida and Florida State.
The Yellow Jackets traveled to Tallahassee on Friday night to play Florida State and Georgia Tech was slow to get rolling, but eventually found their footing.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair ending with the teams tied at three. Tech was still sloppy in the second quarter, but slowly sharpened their focus and worked their way to an 8-5 lead at halftime.
The Jackets fully came to life in the second half, posting a 7-0 third quarter. The 'Noles got two goals to start the fourth quarter before the Jackets steadied the ship and got the 19-10 win.
The Jackets were lead by Devin Raun and Evan Juncal who each notched six points on four goals and two assists, along with Jack Maginnes and Sam Eck who each had five points on three goals and two assists.
Defensively, the Jackets got strong play all around defensively earning the shutout in the third quarter for the second time this season.
On Saturday, the Wreck squared off with Florida in Gainesville, and Georgia Tech got on the board quickly, scoring on their first two possessions before the Gators tied the game at two.
The Jackets scored three straight goals to close the quarter capped off by a goal from Devin Raun with one second left in the quarter.
The Jackets opened the second quarter with an extra man opportunity following an illegal stick penalty on the Gators. Tech capitalized when Sam Eck fired home an assist from Pierce Quarles.
Tech built a 7-2 lead before losing focus over a four minute period allowing the Gators to take advantage and pull within 7-5 at half.
The Jackets, as they have done multiple times this season, strengthened their resolve in the second half and dominated the third quarter 7-1.
The fourth quarter was sloppy on both ends and each team added a goal before the game was called due to lightning in the area with 2:44 left in the game.
The win moves Tech to 4-0 on the season. The Jackets will take on the Auburn Tigers next Saturday followed by the Clemson Tigers on Sunday.
