Invitational Deadline Set
ATLANTA – In order to ensure that the 2021 MCLA Invitational is a productive event, the Board of Directors recently established stipulations for the event to occur.
By March 15, at least 30 programs combined from both divisions must certify that they will play a minimum number of games – tentatively set at five at this point – along with the ability to travel to Texas for the tournament from May 12-14. This would trigger an eight-team event.
The certification must be signed by the program’s rec/club sports representative and submitted to their respective conference director by March 15.
If the minimum number of required teams is met, other teams will have the ability to establish eligibility for selection to the tournament later in the spring up until the committee makes its picks in late April.
Should the 2021 MCLA Invitational proceed, the eight-team field will be set and seeded by a 17-man selection committee that features nine Division I coaches and eight Division II representatives.
The MCLA Invitational is not a national championship, but an opportunity for the most competitive teams in this limited season to finish off the spring against quality competition and set the stage for the MCLA’s silver anniversary season in 2022.
