SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The senior class of 2020 had their season stolen from them.

For reasons outside of their control, they will never be able to pursue goals for which they worked so hard.

As part of a recurring segment for the remainder of this spring, coaches have the opportunity to thank their seniors one last time.

Continuing the series is Cal Poly coach Bobby Dabrieo honoring his six seniors.

We’d like to show gratitude to our six seniors for their hard work and dedication over these past four seasons.

With a record of 40-18, it’s clear that this group excelled on the field. But more importantly, they continued to instill the core values of our culture and will ultimately leave the program in a better place.

#6 Ben Biggers, Midfield
Bainbridge Island, Wash. (Bainbridge)
Ben scored nine goals and added six assists during his four-year career playing both attack and midfield. Ben is a great teammate, works hard, has a great shot with both hands, and has shown flashes of brilliance over his career.

Ben scored a crucial goal to secure a 12-11 victory over Cal in his final game. Ben was coming into his own during his senior season and was poised to make an impact this spring. Ben is an Economics major and will be applying to graduate schools this spring.

#13 Ryan Brown, Faceoff Specialist
Aurora, Colo. (Regis Jesuit)
Coming from a great prep program, we knew we had something special before the first practice of fall ball. Though he would have been our best defensive midfielder as a freshman, Ryan embraced our need for a faceoff specialist, learned the position, and became a three-time team MVP.

Brown scooped 317 groundballs over his career and won 65 percent of his faceoffs while scoring five goals and adding six assists. He’s a captain, a three-time first team WCLL faceoff specialist, a two-time All-American and epitomizes our blue-collar playing style.

Brown is also a three-time Scholar Athlete and will be heading back to Colorado to work in the Construction Management industry upon graduation next fall.

#97 Doug Gosselin, Attack
Salt Lake City, Utah (Judge Memorial)
A four-year starter, Doug is a complete attackman who is as consistent as they come. He scored 94 goals and added 57 assists for a total of 151 points while earning WCLL all-conference the past three seasons.

A 2019 Commanding Performance of the Week recipient, the senior captain is humble, tough and leads by example. Doug has shown the ability to excel in different roles as he led the team in scoring from the X position in 2019 and led the team in goals from the wing during this past season.

Doug is a three-time Scholar Athlete and will be applying to medical schools upon graduation this spring.

#16 Darion Guan, Midfield
Piedmont, Calif. (Piedmont)
Darion played all fours years and contributed as a two-way midfielder. Darion has battled injuries over the course of his career, but his dedication and toughness helped position him to contribute this past season.

Darion is a great teammate and displayed his elite quickness as he recorded a career high of two assists against Sonoma State this past season. The industrial engineering major will graduate next spring.

#17 Justin Reno, Midfield
Davis, Calif. (Davis)
At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, this midfielder made his presence felt in a huge way his senior season. He amassed 19 goals and seven assists during his career, including eight goals and two assists in his senior season.

Justin scored the game winning goal in 2018 at Colorado State and recorded a hat trick during our 17-16 victory over Boston College this past season.

Justin’s attitude and positivity are infectious and will be missed greatly. He will pursue a career in the Construction Management field upon graduation next fall.

#33 Jack Tunney, Defense
San Francisco, Calif. (St. Ignatius)
A captain and executive board member, Jack has been crucial to our success over the past four seasons.

Jack is a vocal leader, our best defensive communicator, a shutdown defender and has scored five goals during his career. Jack’s intensity is contagious and gives our defensive unit the edge needed to stymie opposing offenses.

Jack is a three-time first team all-WCLL defender, was voted the 2019 WCLL Defensive MVP and was also recognized as a First Team All-American. Jack will continue pursuing his Construction Management degree while playing for the team next year.
