Virtual Tournament: Quarterfinals Set
ATLANTA – No. 11 Boston College and No. 4 College of Idaho have emerged as the top remaining seeds in their respective divisions after the first two rounds of the MCLA Virtual Tournament presented by New Balance.
Each of the coaches who advanced this far will receive a staff shirt from the lost championships of 2020.
Division I has been dominated by the lowest seeded teams. The aforementioned BC team will participate in the marquee matchup of the quarters as they host No. 19 Clemson.
Clemson is one of three SELC teams to matriculate to the great eight, joining No. 15 Florida State and the Cinderella boys in Knoxville.
The CLC grabs three spots of its own in the remaining octet. BC is joined by No. 25 Buffalo and No. 29 Pittsburgh.
No. 23 Minnesota (UMLC) and No. 28 Texas (RMLC) rounds out the field.
In Division II, the clash between the College of Idaho and No. 5 Dayton stands out as the premium matchup.
Dayton teams up with No. 9 St. John’s to give the UMLC a pair of contenders while No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast and No. 19 Florida Atlantic give the SELC a potent duo.
No. 32 Stonehill out of the CLC will bring its glass slipper to the matchup with the Johnnies while Rice – the only LSA D-II outfit on the board – will go head-to-head with FAU.
“This tournament stinks,” said MCLA president and Georgia Tech coach Ken Lovic – eliminated in the second round by the Golden Gophers. “The winners should be determined by SAT scores or computer modeling. There are too many variables with a Twitter poll.”
Look for a rollout of the quarterfinal voting starting early next week.
