Senior Thank You: Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. - The senior class of 2020 had their season stolen from them.
For reasons outside of their control, they will never be able to pursue goals for which they worked so hard.
As part of a recurring segment for the remainder of this spring, coaches have the opportunity to thank their seniors one last time.
Continuing the series is Ole Miss coach Matt Schroeder honoring his two seniors.
#22 Landon Twiggs, Attack
Ocean Springs, Miss. (Ocean Springs)
It has been an absolute joy to coach and work with Landon over this past year. A transfer from Jacksonville, Landon is a very skilled, determined and physical lacrosse player. However, what makes him special is his ability to lead selflessly.
As club president this year, I put a lot of responsibility on him and he rose to the occasion. He worked tirelessly so that his fellow teammates could have a great experience.
There wasn't a day that went by that both he or Nick (team vice president) wouldn't reach out to me and ask what more they could be doing for the team.
As tough as it was to not be able to see this season through, even though I am losing a player, I am gaining a friend, which means far more to me than the wins and losses.
Our leadership for next year has large shoes to fill, but I am so thankful for the time we got to spend together. I hope he looks back on his time with Ole Miss and the lacrosse program with a smile.
Thank you Landon for making this such a great experience for everyone associated with Ole Miss lacrosse.
#18 Connor Maresco, Attack
Ashburn, Va. (Broad Run)
It has been an absolute pleasure getting the opportunity to coach Connor. Connor transferred to Ole Miss from Bridgewater (Va.) College and was a great attackman. His hands are so quick, I almost couldn't believe how he was able to get the ball in and out of his stick so quickly.
Connor was a quiet leader of our team. He never took plays off, whether it was riding, executing an offense, or hustling for a ground ball. Even with our small number of players, Connor refused to come off the field and would do anything to help the team. He also did everything with a smile.
Connor is pursing his Master's degree in Accounting and was always working hard off the field on his studies. Connor will be graduating in December and I have no doubt that he will be a great leader in his field.
I will miss Connor, his attention to detail, and genuine love for this great sport.
