Cal Names 2020 Captains
BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Cal men's lacrosse program is pleased to announce the four team captains for the 2020 season. Seniors Nick Beattie, Jake Lombardo, Finnian Meagher and Jake Pistotnik were selected by a vote of their peers as the team enters the first fall scrimmages.
Beattie (Winter Park, Fla.) achieves the rare honor of being a three-year team captain. He was a key reason the Golden Bears went 18-1, earned their second straight WCLL title and a spot in the MCLA championship game.
Beattie was a second team all-WCLL selection and an Honorable Mention All-American. The pre-med major plans to attend medical school next fall.
Meagher (Baltimore, Md.) will help lead the close defense after starting every game for the past two seasons, earning first team all-WCLL honors and Honorable Mention All-American. An Applied Mathematics major, Meagher is pursuing a career in investment, corporate banking or wealth management.
Pistotnik (Calabasas, Calif.), will lead a high-powered offense that averaged 15 goals per game in 2019. Like Meagher, Pistotnik will assume captain duties for the second straight year.
Pistotnik is a three-time all-WCLL selection and three-time All-American, with several other honors to his name. A senior in the prestigious Haas School of Business, Pistotnik is interviewing for positions in real estate, sports management and business analytics.
Lombardo (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) will finish his career with this well deserved honor of captain. A four year starter at attack, Lombardo currently has 99 goals and 83 assists during his career, and is primed to finish strong this spring. Like Pistotnik, Lombardo was accepted to the Haas School of Business and is seeking employment in the finance world.
In addition to being outstanding players, all four captains were 2019 Scholar Athletes. Between them, they average a 3.62 GPA. They have also put in several hours over their career with local non-profit Oakland Lacrosse Club, helping coach, tutor and mentor youth student-athletes.
"While several of our talented junior class received votes, I think we all knew who our four captains were going to be," said Cal coach Ned Webster. "These four are leaders on and off the field in every sense of the word and really set the perfect example for our underclassmen. We're excited to have Nick, Jake, Finn and Jake lead us this spring during what we expect to be a fun and successful season."
