Mo. State’s Serota Posts Top Performance
ATLANTA – By keeping two of the most prolific scorers in the MCLA in check during a pair of Missouri State victories, senior defender Gunner Serota earned Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour in Division II for the period ending Feb. 11.
In conditions rivaling an ice storm on Saturday, Missouri State faced No. 21 UT-Dallas and, thanks to Serota, the Bears took home the 6-4 win. Serota kept the Comets’ Zain Rehman – UTD’s leading points producer and the LSA Offensive Player of the Year in ’17 – to just one assist.
The following day against Baylor and its high-powered offense, Serota was again instrumental in locking up a Bears win, 10-5. Serota did not allow a 6-on-6 goal to Baylor’s stud attackman Trey Cambere, keeping the offense in check.
In the two games, the Black River, N.Y., native had two caused turnovers, seven ground balls and even chipped in with an assist against UT-Dallas.
Along with his teammates, Missouri State held two teams that average 37 goals a game combined to just nine.
“Gunner is, without a doubt, the leader on our defense, and the defense has led our team,” said Missouri State coach Dustin Rich. “He matches up against the opposition’s best, and his numbers suggest he's pretty good at it.”
For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Serota will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
