Florida Unveils Fall Ball Slate
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After achieving its best regular season record since 2010 under a first-year coaching staff in 2017, the University of Florida men’s lacrosse team is preparing for further success in 2018 with a challenging fall slate.
The Gators won’t have to look far to find the kind of high-caliber tests they’ll need to prepare for the rigorous schedule that awaits them this coming spring. Four in-state contests and the annual alumni game will provide UF with plenty of opportunities to compete and self-evaluate.
A late-September square-off with Florida Gulf Coast gets things started for the Gators. The Eagles, reigning SELC DII Champions, will travel to Gainesville to continue a young, cross-division rivalry that is quickly becoming a premiere showcase of Sunshine State lacrosse.
After the Gator Lacrosse alumni come to town, UF will turn its attention to an away contest against SouthEast divisional rival UCF. Both teams are excited to continue a tradition that began with last year’s fall event, when the Gators and Knights held a clinic for youth players from all over Central Florida before taking the field in front of 500-plus fans for their fall matchup. Details surrounding this event will be released at a later date.
The fall schedule concludes with two November matchups.
First, the Gators play host to Keiser University, a team coming off an NAIA National Championship appearance. Two short weeks later, Florida State comes to town for the rival schools’ annual Fall Classic. The Seminoles finished 2017 ranked No. 11 in the MCLA Coaches Poll and are fresh off a berth to the MCLA National Championship.
