UST’s Weitgenant Earns Award
ATLANTA – After guiding St. Thomas to two of its three ranked victories at Judgement Weekend II, Tommies senior goalie Ryan Weitgenant has earned MCLA Division II Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending April 2.
St. Thomas opened JW2 in South Barrington, Ill., against No. 3 Grand Valley State in a rematch of last year’s national championship game. The Coon Rapids, Minn., product turned away 13 of the 18 shots he faced (72.2 sv%) as the Tommies took home the 9-5 victory.
The following day against No. 13 Grove City, Weitgenant made 14 saves while allowing just four goals (77.8 sv%) in the 11-4 triumph.
In the two games, he posted a 75.0 save percentage and a 4.50 goals against average for the nation’s top team.
“We knew that we were going to see some very good opposing offenses this weekend, and needed strong defensive showings. Ryan delivered,” said St.Thomas coach Brian Gross. “He gave the team a great week and a half of practice leading up and gave us two great games in net. When we have great goalie play, our entire team feeds off of it. It was the key to our success this weekend.”
For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Weitgenant will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
