PCLL Tournament Set for Brown
BOSTON – Stevenson Field on the campus of Brown University will be the site of the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League tournament in both divisions this week. The Division I tourney will feature four teams playing semis and finals on April 29-30 while D-II has a six-team field that commenced on Tuesday with the first round.
The winner of the PCLL Division I championship will earn an automatic berth in the 2017 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Orange County, Calif, from May 8-13. The PCLL awards its D-II automatic qualifier to its regular season champ, which was Bridgewater State.
After an inauspicious start to the season with a loss to New Hampshire, Boston College has rattled off four straight conference wins to grab the top seed. The Eagles won the head-to-head tiebreaker with second-seeded UConn, which also finished 4-1.
BC will get a chance to avenge its only conference loss against fourth-seeded UNH in the first semifinal while the Huskies take on Northeastern in the other semifinal. The championship game will be on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Bridgewater State and Central Conn. State grabbed the top seeds and byes in the PCLL D-II tournament and will await the pair of midweek games for Saturday’s semifinals. The championship game will be at noon on Sunday.
“This year’s Division I tournament looks wide open with any of the four teams possessing the ability to walk away with the title,” said PCLL director Dan Morris. “Bridgewater State is our D-II automatic qualifier, but we have numerous proud programs that can make their season with a PCLL championship.”
Admission to the PCLL championships is free of charge to the general public.
