CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men’s lacross team posted a pair of impressive wins this past weekend, ousting No. 22 Northeastern, 12-5, and No. 13 UConn, 9-3.

The two victories provide the Eagles with momentum going into their final regular season game against URI on Tuesday, and then into the PCLL tourney over weekend.

On Friday, crosstown rival Northeastern travelled to Boston College’s Alumni Stadium for the Eagles’ “Purple Game,” commemorating the efforts of Boston College Relay for Life team.

The Eagles embraced the intense energy from both Eagle and Husky fans, coming out of the gates fast with quick ball movement and an efficient transition offense, taking the lead at halftime, 5-2.

Seniors Dan Trompeter and Grant Van Fossan led the offensive machine. Trompeter netted three goals while Van Fossan added two goals and two assists.

The Eagle defense held the Huskies’ dangerous offense to only five goals in the game. A defensive highlight was the BC man-down unit shutting out Northeastern’s two man-up opportunity for 1:30, then forcing a turnover to put it in the Eagles offense’s hands.

Continuing their impressive seasons, faceoff specialist Griffin Carney and goalie Richard O’Keeffe controlled the tempo of the game, stifling the Huskies.

UConn arrived at Alumni Stadium a day later in hopes of avenging last year’s PCLL Championship loss to the Eagles.

Riding on the previous night’s tremendous team effort, as well as the pre-game festivities celebrating the senior’s final home game and honoring Welles Crowther – Boston College Men’s Lacrosse Alum and 9/11 American hero – the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and held onto a firm 6-1 lead at half.

Junior Seamus Scaring had a season-best three goals and an assist, and sophomore LSM Jack Gilbert was explosive between the lines, raking in seven groundballs and playing solid defense all night.

Carney walked away with an 86.0 faceoff winning percentage while O’Keeffe earned stopped 79 percent of the shots that came his way over the weekend.

Allowing only eight goals in two games proves that the Eagles defense has found their stride, which is opportune timing since an Eagles win on Tuesday can lock up the number one seed going into the PCLL playoffs.
