Chapman Grabs Top Seed in MCLA-I
ATLANTA – Chapman rolled through the season with an 18-0 mark, capped off by the SLC title on Sunday over defending national champion Grand Canyon, and the Panthers were rewarded with the top seed in the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which was released on Sunday evening.
The national event will start on Monday, May 9, with first round games, followed by quarterfinals on Tuesday, semifinals on Thursday and the championship game on Saturday, May 14. The first two rounds will take place at UC Irvine before moving to Chapman University for the semifinals and finals in Orange, Calif.
This is Chapman’s ninth consecutive appearance at the MCLA National Championships, but it’s the first time the Panthers have earned the top seeds despite making two finals. Chapman will face No. 16 Purdue, the champion of the GRLC, in the first round.
Chapman is one of five SLC teams to qualify for the championships along with Arizona, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona State and Grand Canyon. The RMLC has three teams in the draw while the WCLL got a pair of squads.
