GCU’s Hamwey Has D-I Top Performance
ATLANTA – With a dominating performance at the faceoff dot against one of the best teams in the country, Grand Canyon graduate student Ron Hamwey earned MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 27.
In a road contest with No. 3 Brigham Young on Friday night, Hamwey won 12-of-16 faceoffs, helping the Lopes keep a steady stream of possession in the 12-4 upset of the Cougars. The two teams were tied at four at halftime, but with Hamwey ruling the stripe, Grand Canyon outscored BYU 8-0 in the second half.
“I'm really proud of what Ron has done this year,” said Grand Canyon coach Manny Rapkin. “He had a rough stretch adjusting to a full-time job, full-time graduate school and a nagging injury. He has been a difference-maker in this three-game win streak.”
For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Hamwey will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
