ASHLAND, Ore. -- For the second straight weekend, Southern Oregon traveled south for a pair of games in California. Keeping their perfect season alive, the Raiders defeated San Francisco, 15-1, and edged out UC Santa Cruz in a double-overtime thriller, 9-8.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in the heart of San Francisco, the Raiders faced the Dons for the first time in program history. The Raiders began the weekend on the right note, scoring a season-high 15 goals en route to their fourth consecutive victory. Nine different Raiders scored in Saturday's contest.

Three Raiders had five points: David Mungeam (4g, 1a), Ari Feldman (3g, 2a) and Taylor Harrison (2g, 3a). Sophomore midfielder Alonzo Jimenez scored his first goal of his SOU career late in the fourth quarter. As a team, the Raiders won 16-of-18 faceoffs, highlighted by Harley Humphrey (13-for-15) and Andre Morris (3-for-3). Raider defensemen Josh Barnhart and Harrison led the team with six ground balls apiece. A strong Raiders defense only allowed two shots all game while playing even strength.

On Sunday, the Raiders faced the UC Santa Cruz, who were fresh off a 14-3 victory over Pacific the previous day. The game began quietly as Ian Wilborn was the lone player to find the back of the net in the first quarter. The Banana Slugs had two man-up opportunities, but the stout Southern man-down unit produced as they have all season long, successfully killing both penalties.

Mungeam picked up a pair of assists in the second quarter, finding Feldman and Spencer Pregal for goals. Again, the Raiders man-down unit proved to be vital as they stopped two more UCSC extra-man opportunities. The Banana Slugs were able to get one on the board in between the Raiders' two goals, sending the low-scoring affair to 3-1 at halftime score in favor of the Raiders.

The third quarter began with a Feldman unassisted goal, increasing the Raiders' lead to 4-1. The Slugs were able to pick up some momentum as they scored three unanswered goals to knot the score at 4-4. Wilborn found Mungeam for a doorstep goal in the closing minute of the third and the Raiders held a 5-4 lead heading into the final quarter.

At the start of the fourth, Mungeam picked up a loose ball by the crease and finished, giving the Raiders a two-goal advantage. Penalties began to hurt the Raiders as the Slugs converted on the EMO to get back within one. Following a great save, Raider goalie Connor Kelley nearly ran 20 yards out of the cage, before hitting midfielder Scott Comer with a perfect 40 yard pass. Comer took the ball the rest of the way and buried it unassisted, putting the Raiders up 7-5 with 5:35 left in the game. After the Comer goal, the Banana Slugs caught fire, going on a three-goal run to take their first lead of the game, 8-7, with only a few minutes left on the clock.

Following a Santa Cruz timeout, defensive captains Harrison and Killian Spicer forced a turnover off a perfectly executed double team. Harrison was able to secure the loose ball and began a fast break, quickly dishing the ball to Pregal on the attack wing. Pregal was able to find a cutting Mungeam who scored his third of the game to even up the score at 8-8 with 30 seconds remaining. Each team got good looks near the end of the fourth, but neither were able to convert, sending the game to overtime.

After the Slugs won the overtime faceoff, Kelley quickly ended their possession after a great save. Once they got possession on their offensive end of the field, the Raiders strategically called a timeout. Following the stoppage in play, the Raiders were handed a great opportunity to put the game away after a cross-check was called on Santa Cruz. The Slug man-down unit stepped up to the challenge and was able to kill the penalty. Another great defensive stand by the Raiders kept Santa Cruz off the board on the ensuing possession causing a second overtime period.

Humphrey was able to secure possession for the Raiders on the second overtime faceoff. Following an SOU timeout, play resumed with Feldman in possession of the ball, who quickly carried it back to X. After a swift dodge to the cage, the junior midfielder beat his man and began to make a move around the crease. The moment he got top side, Feldman took a lefty rip and was able to find the back of the net, winning the game for the Raiders by a 9-8 final.

This was the first overtime win for Southern since 2012, where they defeated Humboldt State 10-9 in Arcata -- and only the second double overtime game in program history. Mungeam led all Raiders with five points (3g, 2a) on the day, with Feldman securing his second hat trick of the weekend. Kelley saved a career-high 20 shots (71.4 save percentage) bringing his season percentage to 72.4. Overall, it was a resilient effort by the Raiders who battled numerous injuries to key players and competed with only four subs.

Next up for the Raiders (5-0) is a clash with two PNCLL North Division foes: Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound. The games will occur at a neutral site -- Wilsonville High School outside of Portland -- on Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively. Another weekend sweep would give Southern their best start in program history, eclipsing the 6-0 mark set in 2009.
