SLC Seeks Game of the Week Broadcasters
SAN DIEGO – The Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) is announcing a search for qualified/interested announcers and sideline reporters for its Game of the Week this spring.
The SLC enters its fifth season hosting the Game of the Week broadcasts over YouTube (SLC and MCLA channels) and is searching for on-air talent.
Position Details
The play-by-play commentator must provide a live call of the action on the field during the game, and in order to do so must have a complete understanding of the game of college lacrosse, including the rules of the game and the flow of play. In addition to broadcasting the game itself, the commentator is expected to prepare thoroughly prior to the game by doing the proper amount of research to have a full understanding of both teams involved in any given matchup as well as the context that the teams represent on a regional and national scale. After the game, the commentator may be needed to provide wrap-up commentary or post-game interviews. The commentator is expected to show utmost respect and cooperation with the technical crew as well as professionalism both on and off the camera.
The sideline reporter must report on live action during the game from the sideline angle, be comfortable with speaking to coaches/players, possess a knack for uncovering in game stories, and have a working knowledge of lacrosse terminology. The reporter will cover pre- and post-game interviews with coaches and players, make player of the game award presentations, and be creative enough to keep the viewer informed of the action from the bench areas. The reporter must have the initiative to contact coaches prior to game day to gather background information while maintaining the respect for team privacy.
• Receive direction from TVX Video staff & onsite game producer
• Weekend day/night travel to games at UC Santa Barbara, Grand Canyon, Arizona, Chapman Univ, Las Vegas, San Diego and Orange Counties
• Broadcast experience is preferred but not required
• Small stipend to offset commuting expenses
• Reliable transportation a must
• Jan/Feb training at college campuses in San Diego and Orange Counties (required)
• Has potential to lead to full-time employment and national coverage
Training occurs on weekends throughout Orange and San Diego Counties with the first live broadcast taking place in late February and running through the SLC Tournament during the end of April/beginning of May. Candidates will work directly with experienced production staff of TVX Video under the direction of SLC Board Members. Stipends are considered on a case by case basis.
There are no promises of future employment, but our last team was hired full time by the Lax Sports Network! This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in front of the camera.
