MCLA Offers ‘Registration Saver’ Insurance
The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association, the preeminent non-varsity organization in the country, has announced that it is working in conjunction with Next Wave Insurance to provide student-athletes and parents alike an avenue to protect their annual program dues investment along with individual travel insurance.
Next Wave Insurance (NWI), along with underwriters at AIG and Travel Guard, and the MCLA will be offering Registration Saver insurance policies to the association’s membership. This will allow dues to be recouped – partially or in total – should a player be unable to continue his participation with the team due to injury or various other reasons.
The dues insurance would cost 7 percent of the total dues amount (ex: $1,000 dues = $70 policy) and would be prorated over the course of the season. The travel insurance, which would protect a player should he become sick or otherwise unable to join a team road trip, would be covered at 6 percent of the cost of the trip (ex: $500 plane/hotel = $30 policy).
“With the cost of dues and travel expenses required for our members, a Registration Saver policy will provide student-athletes, parents and programs peace of mind,” said MCLA president Ken Lovic. “If a player has a season ending injury or illness, they will have an avenue to recoup their team registration money. The amount is even prorated if the season ending occurrence happens part way through the game schedule.”
Information will be distributed to the head coaches of all MCLA members, which are to be dispensed to players and their parents. For more information about the Registration Saver, visit NWI’s website HERE.
Frequently Asked Questions about Registration Saver
* If a player suffers a season-injury midway through the season, what amount of his dues can he expect to recoup?
If a player is injured half way through the season, he would be received half of the fee that he insured, If he is injured after only playing 2 games of a 10 game season, he would receive 80% of the fee that he insured.
* If my grades are slipping and I decide to leave the team to concentrate on academics, am I eligible to recoup my dues through Registration Saver?
No, leaving the team under your own free will is not an insurable event and therefore is not covered. Please visit www.registrationsaver.com to review all covered reasons.
* What else besides injury commonly triggers a Registration Saver policy payout?
The most common trigger for the Tournament/Camp policy is injury/sickness and inclement weather (tournament cancelation) and for the Season policy it is injury/sickness. Please visit www.registrationsaver.com to view all covered reasons by policy.
* What kind of documentation am I required to show in order to access my policy?
If you are making a claim you will be required to submit receipts or a physicians report depending upon what the circumstances are.
* How far out from the date of a trip do I have to purchase a policy to be covered?
If you are purchasing the Tournament/Camp policy, it must be purchased 10 days prior to the start date. The Season policy can be purchased at any time before the season begins.
* Registration Saver is policy for individual players, but can a team opt to take a policy out on every player for their trips?
Yes, you can pay for all players but they must be issued a policy individually. For example, if I pay for all my players, I must access the web site and purchase each players policy individually so that they can be issued a policy. It is a very simple process to complete.
* If we buy our plane tickets and hotel rooms for nationals in February, but don’t qualify, would that be covered under the travel plan?
No, non-qualification for an event is not considered a covered peril.
